Question I recently purchased ESD stripper, neutralizer and wax from you. Everything has been applied according to instructions.

Can you give me information about correct methods for testing the surface?

Thanks,
Vincent Kiel,
Schlumberger PTC
Answer Statguard® Dissipative Floor Finish is a polymer and not a wax. ESD Flooring can be tested using two 5 pound electrodes (RTT resistance top-to-top) using a test kit.

A typical test procedure would be:
• Do not clean the ESD floor immediately prior to verification
• Connect test leads to 5 pound electrodes and to Megohmmeter
• Place the electrodes on the ESD floor surface about 3 feet apart and apply 10 volts.
• Wait for the integrated checker or meter to stabilize.. If the indicated resistance is less than 1.0 x 10E6 ohms, record this result.
• If the indicated resistance is equal to or greater than 1.0 x 10E6 ohms, switch the integrated checker or meter to 100 volts and retest the ESD floor.
• Tests should include those ESD flooring areas that are subject to wear or are visibly dirty.

Note the test kit automatically switches from the 10 volts to the 100 volt test voltage.

The required limit for ESD flooring per ANSI/ESD S20.20 is less than 1 x 10^9 ohms; Compliance Verification testing is to be done per ESD TR53. Both documents are available from www.ESDA.org. There is no charge for ANSI/ESDS20.20 while ESD TR53 is sold at $100 for no-members and $75 for ESD Association members.
