Question Is there a product that will allow a wrist strap & foot grounder to be connected together, so the wrist strap would not need to be connected to a worksurface mat? (To allow more freedom of movement?)
Answer

No, there is no such product. Here are the considerations.

For mobile or standing workers a Flooring/Footwear System personnel ground is acceptable. You need both ESD footwear and ESD flooring. No Wrist Strap System is required. However, if the person is seated, they must be grounded using a Wrist Strap System.

Here’s what the ESD Association says:
“For standing operations, personnel shall be grounded via a wrist strap system or by a flooring/footwear system.”  [ANSI/ESDS20.20-2007 section 8.2]

“ESD protective footwear is designed to reduce body charge levels by supplying a conductive path from the body to the floor material.

Heel and toe grounders shall be worn on both feet to insure effective use.

The ability of footwear to remove a charge from a charged person who moves from an unprotected area to a protected one, or moves about on an ESD floor should be evaluated. As a person contacts an ESD floor material with static control footwear, the body charge should dissipate leaving minimal residual charge.

Ease of use, fit, ergonomics and safety of the chosen footwear will have impact on the successful use of footwear as grounding devices.” [ESD Handbook ESD TR20.20-2008 section 5.3.3.3.4 Proper Usage]

ANSI/ESD S20.20 Table 2 Note 2 also says “For situations where an ESD garment is used as part of the wrist strap grounding path, the total system resistance including the person, garment and grounding cord shall be less than 3.5 x 10E7 ohms”.

The answer to your question might be yes, that is use a Statshield ESD Smock with hip-to-cuff feature “to allow more freedom of movement”. I would recommend with Conductive Cuffs. Then no wristband is needed. Personnel could wear foot grounders when on ESD flooring and then plug in their coil cord attached to the hip of their smock when seated or whenever else it is desired to be grounded via a wrist strap system.

The Statshield Smock while worn can be tested per Compliance Verification ESD TR53 using a wrist strap tester; we recommend our Combo Tester X3.
